Yes, Disney World was so fun, and we jam-packed the vacation with so many fun things, that it’s going to take multiple posts to properly document it!
We left home on Friday, September 23th. Our flights left Des Moines around noon, and we were to fly into Milwaukee, have a 4 hour layover, fly to Atlanta, and then arrive in Orlando around midnight. We were not looking forward to this, but we had taken entertainment activities along, and had planned to eat an early dinner at Chili’s in the Milwaukee airport.
However, when we arrived to Milwaukee and went to our next gate, we found that there was another plane boarding right then for Atlanta. We inquired about any available seats, but when they saw that we were ultimately headed for Orlando, they sent us to a different gate, where there there was a plane boarding directly from Milwaukee to Orlando. They must have had pity on us poor souls with three little kids not scheduled to arrive until after midnight, and gave us 5 available seats. The plane was fairly full too!
So we arrived in Orlando about 6 hours ahead of schedule, and had one less leg to our journey. This also meant that the Disney baggage service would pick up our checked luggage for us and bring it to our hotel room for us, since we arrived before 10 pm. We just got off the plane and headed straight to the bus with our carry-ons and the kids. The Disney transportation took us directly to Disney World and our hotel!
When we checked into Disney’s Polynesian Resort (which we loved and recommend whole-heartedly - and try their pina colava drink!), they upgraded our room from a “garden view” to a room with a view of Magic Kingdom’s castle, across the Seven Seas Lagoon. After checking in, we dropped our stuff in our rooms, then we had time for dinner at one of the hotel restaurants before bedtime – about the time our checked luggage arrived to our room!Such blessings, as our Walt Disney World adventure even began!

I just bought everyone seasonal tickets but Jasmine, Jessica and I upgraded ours so we aren't blocked out for the summer because we will be in Orlando two different weeks this summer. We've never stayed at a Disney resort except in France and we only had two children with us. We stay near by at a Choice Hotel usually, but we drive down (6 1/2 hrs) so we have a car. Was this the kids' first Disney trip?
Yes, it was the kids' first visit. I'd been there on a high school band trip, but we didn't get to do a lot at the parks - mostly just marched in a parade there. Jock lived in Orlando a couple semesters during our college days, so we'd been to Epcot and Hollywood Studios (then-MGM) when he was there.
Since it would've been a 24-hour drive from here, we decided to enjoy ourselves and completely wear ourselves out having fun instead of just traveling, so we flew and let Disney take care of the local ground transportation, which was great! Probably just a once-in-a-lifetime trip for us, so we went for it.
I'd like to do one of the character meals sometime but most of my kids are older so wouldn't find it too entertaining : (
